Constancy Poem by Edwin Cordevilla

Constancy

Rating: 5.0

Today, the blessed rain sang over the land,
Surrendered her dreams to the feverish soil.
I said, `Ahoy lovely neighbors, I told you
The rain will come, and she does come alright,
Bringing the news of life to everything she touches.’

Tonight, as the full moon waxes serenely,
Like children we dance around the pyre with joy on our lips –
Ecstasy glistening on our skin.

I hold her hips as if in a ritual, my mate and friend –
Lead her into the embrace of the charmed night,
The scent of the wet ground lingers like sweet melody.

The heavens and earth have been gracious,
As the land now teems with sparkling life!

I say to the gods, `You residents of Olympus
Know of the circle of existence, and mortals
Barter for your wisdom with one candle light! ’

Zephyr flies from Arcadia, touching my cheeks,
And leads my hand to touch the silken hair of my love.

I kiss her lips, our souls entwine.
While the ancient bell beckons Eternity,
Our blood ignites to Nature’s calling.

Memories and civilization’s histories are but a tome
In our mythology; the rest resides in the leaves
That reach out and flowers that bloom perpetually.

Tomorrow, ah, who knows what tomorrow holds,
But the symphony of bird-songs that shall stir one from a dream
Shall lull another into a deeper sleep.
