Corn Maiden Poem by Adryan Barnathan

Corn Maiden

Rating: 5.0

Listen closely-
to a cornfield
for it speaks
in low hushed tones
to soothe the leaves
that rustle in
deep knowing whispers
of a time
in an age
when lightening could
kidnap and stow you
below the earth
as did happen to
the ''Corn Maiden''
who still
to this day
is held captive
under this ground
where animals
continue to help
dig her out
so she can
burst out into the sun
and be ready
to feed the world.
