Corruption Is Hope Turned To Ashes
Corruption knows no boundaries or shame
It blows like the wind in all directions and
Thrives with those with power and influence.
Politicians smile and make promises they
Intend to break to get people to put their
Hard fought little X's on the ballot paper.
What hope is there when populist politicians
Mislead the public and promote discord with
Misinformation and lies to stay in power
Aided by their billionaire donors who need to
Create an unequal world to maximise their ill
Gained profits, to fleece all ordinary people.
Where executives of fossil fuel industries watch
The planet burn and destroying the biodiverse
That their children will never see.
And with the tech giants shaping the world with
Artificial Intelligence without due scrutiny. They
Will only bring trouble on those they serve.
What hope is there for the world when corruption
Has the capacity to turn the world into ashes by
The greed of the minority who hold total power.
While, so true, we are on the road to ashes, I still hope/ believe that a U-turn is coming : )
And then somehow, somewhere deep inside, there sits a belief that the Creative power of this universe (God) will not allow all to be blown up by the greedy corrupt and wicked. Somewhere deep inside, I still believe that wisdom and kindness will win in the end
A very well written poem, David. It is so true that corruption can destroy whatever has been achieved by humanity.
Well penned. No matter what is written about them, there is no point in holding a mirror up to them, they only know one thing and that is to wield power by hook or by crook. Full Appluase *****
