Covid Thoughts Poem by Jane Quijano

Covid Thoughts

It was spring not fall
When vibrant flowers turned black
Winter came so fast.

Amidst these silence
Of lambs among the dying
They cried their last breath!

Sought out and admired
Cheered high on their pedestal
But birds tied on wires.

In this fight, they came
Courageous, duty-bound, tired...
They laboured and died.

In death, no one came.
Alone, they were put on fire-
To ashes, to dust!

What kind of folly
Does man do to his own kind?
Monstrous frankenstein!

Hear now the silence
Of people who spoke so loud -
Now mute, deaf and blind!

Cymbals all to naught
A thief in the dark of night
While the sparrows cry
