Culture Poem by Anthony Acquah

Culture

My culture what is it?
Is it not defined by where I come from?
Is it not defined by Race?
Is it not defined by color
Is it not defined by others?
Whether they be family, friends or enemies.

NO

It is ME who defines my culture
It is me who decides where I come from
It is me who decides what I believe
It is me who decides whether I am black or white
Not you because I am mixed race
It is me who only understands
What and who I am

My fatherland may be Africa
My motherland England
At the end of the day
I belong to the culture of my own choosing
So all those who are in the same situation as me at various stages of their life.

Just remember YOU decide your and no one else.
CULTURE.
