Da Da Da Poem by Jose Ramon Sanchez

Da Da Da

When you were 8 months
On this earth
Your da da das boomed
Like distant thunder,
A rumbling, piercing
Rattle
That told everyone
That your voice
Would not be quiet
That your talents
Would not lay low
That your smile
Would compete with the sun
That your spirit
Everywhere glows.
At fourteen
You speak little
But to be heard
Your talents are hidden
But everywhere flow
Your spirit is like a ghost
But as tough as stone
Your smile is fleeting
But always a reward
At fourteen
You step into
The uncertainty
Of adulthood
With its infinite possibilities
And vexing choices
But you step
With certainty
Of da da das
That can rival Hurracan
And can open
earth’s mysteries
like dandelion spores
