Darkened Light Poem by Vi Lanflagle

Darkened Light

Shrouded in darkness
Surrounded by light
You can’t find me
Although you try.

I can’t find myself
In this living hell.
Don’t want to get out
Even though I know how.

Shadows pulling at me
Tugging on my leg
I’m fighting things I can’t see
Trying to pull me down
Though I beg and plead.

I’ve resigned. I’ve given up
Seems there’s no stopping them.
Then there’s a voice saying
“Don’t give in-
I’ll tell you when.”

Amazing. This gives words to the nightmares I sometimes had as a child, especially those proximate to eye surgeries.
