Darker Views Poem by martin elbin

Darker Views

who remembers warriors for all the good that they have done
the freedoms kept and beachheads held, and all the battles they have won.
who remembers politicians spinning yarns out of control
walking paths behind their blinders, lost while they are on a roll.

who remembers priests or prophets writing words to lead our lives
running from discouraged masses wielding spears or guns or knives.
who remembers any teachers casting ceaseless endless views
folding histories and science into books for countless youths.

who remembers mothers, fathers spending lives to make a mark'
and inheritances waning into the cold and lost and dark.
who remembers boys or girlfriends teaching lessons to the dumb
experimenting with the vices, sex or drugs, or smokes or rum.

who remembers pets or partners trained and tied to hitching posts
chains controlled and ties that bind make each one unwitting hosts.
who remembers doctors moments wasted practices they choose
leading, losing time and patients, lives are nothing- more to loose.

who remembers cops and robbers, good and bad both run the race
all along the rented highway where the victims can't keep pace.
who remember laws and lawyers, why we want to who can say
leeches are the wilds balance, must be one somewhere one day

who remembers cynic's babbling, ramblings on most any thing
keep opinions on the surface of the fights tossed on the wing.
who remembers poet's scrabble teaching little more that waste
for we cannot catch the meanings of the words thrown down in haste.
