Darkness

The darkness holds me close
Then throws me away
Alone in the cold
But when I cry out
It rushes back
And oozes around
Cradling me
In soft, warm dark
I have seen candles
Candles that shatter my dark
Carried by those
Surrounded by light
At times
I have known
The candle-holders, light-ones
And their light has welcomed me
Pulled at my heart
But the dark wants me
And I need it
I am not ready to be weaned
From my lifesource
From my bittersweet
Warmcold
Softhard
Dark.

Poem of the Day

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Young Love lies sleeping
In May-time of the year,
Among the lilies,
Lapped in the tender light:
White lambs come grazing,
White doves come building there:
