dawn

about the edges of day's beginning.......

from
his
silver cornet
came
a
tone
so rich and clear....
warm
and bright........

they
straggle-marched
out
of
that alley
in chinatown....
they marched......those few.....
not
so much in cadence....
through
scraps of yesterday's news.....
moist
with drops
from
the streetcleaner's low-slung fountains.....

early-rising pigeons hopped and scuttered...
found
crumb-bits of night-before's leavings..........

it wasn't just lack of sleep.....
or
the magic
of
new love....

that
sound

has
stayed with me....

just because....

.it
was pure as the dawn itself........
.an aural remembering........fresh as when the first note
touched
the still air...........
made its way into me......

and
remains.....

a color....no,
all colors.........

what
a
gift....

a
mission.....
accomplished..........

those
breaths....those
colors
are
mine....
to
give
to
you.....

now

they
are
yours.....

every harmonic
every
overtone.....new........

now

you are
part
of my
forever........

and
I
hear
those
notes.....

clearer and truer
than
ever............
