De Profundis Poem by jerry hughes

De Profundis

I should have been there
to hold you, when you were scared;
And cuddle you when you were sad.

I should have been there
to see you blossom from adolescence
to womanhood, in the blinking of an eye.

I should have been there,
but I wasn't.

It's not unusual to seek perfection in a poem but it is unusual to find it.There is pathos and poetry in this one that catches you and holds you.

My darling - you were only a child yourself, remember? And yet, this poem shows us the depth and humility that lies within you, despite all that has happened since. Beautiful poem. love, Allie xxxx

Deep are the words from our greatest fears, to fail ourselves because we are our worst critic; and if we fail in our own eyes, others must certainly think this too... they say hindsight is 20/20, and when you look back and see the things you could have done or said and the choices you made, good or bad, remember one thing... you did the best you could with the tools you had at the time. I truly believe that.
