Dead Poems Society Poem by Andy Brookes

A poem not read is a poem dead
its dies from the bullets of indifference

a poems not red or blue or green or blackest hue
is dead, it dies in the refrigerant of shallowminds

the words turn sour slew off the page
to land and slide towards the void

a poem not read is sad pines away
is stifled suffocated in the closed book.

so read a poem today and animate it,
resuscitate it, give it the kiss of life.

open the creaky pages, slip it down off the shelf
you never know you might enjoy it.

it might give you wisdom, peace or even wings
but most of all you'll let it live again.
