Dear Mum... Poem by Dr John Celes

Dear Mum...

We miss you very much and dad;
The thought of you both makes us sad;
The present days are truly bad;
We cannot do the things, you had.

The way things happen makes all mad;
Your love and care kept us so glad;
Those days were great when lass and lad;
Joy comes not from a money’s-wad.

Nevertheless, we must live on;
Less hope springs in hearts every morn;
More babies are unborn than born;
Almighty’s heart looks hurt and torn.

Rare is a good matrimony;
Bad things stem from excess money;
The mobile world appears funny;
Just prayers maintain harmony.

Less wealth had given immense joy;
Our words comfort not but annoy;
Childhood was good without a toy;
Oh, how I wish I were a boy!

God, give us strength of heart and will!
God ne’er forsake when we turn ill;
We pots of clay must always fill
With grace, until we reach God’s Hill!

So ‘Rest in peace, ’ ye mighty souls;
You did so well your earthly roles;
Your love had reached even the poles;
You gave us Christ and lovely goals!

“In loving memory of dear mum and dad”
