Death And My Cell Phone Poem by Lewis Eron

Death And My Cell Phone

It used to be easy to speak to you.
You even had your own ring-tone,
A fanfare – trumpets blazing,
Telling me you are here
In my hand
Wherever you were
On this earth.
No place for us to hide.
That is,
Until the day before yesterday.

This morning,
I tried to call you.
No answer – of course.
So I put my phone
In the left inside pocket
Of the blue blazer
You bought for me,
Right next to my heart,
And, then,
You answered.
