Dernier Cri Poem by Paul Brookes

Dernier Cri

Fashionable, great word,
fad, faddish, slick as a butter dish;
smooth slippery silken ropes
blunt affectation, fancy quirk,
raging frivolous conceit
a fanfare for the avant-garde.
minus cliché.

hard rock corrustications
critic raves fool notions
new is not always news
tomorrow's rubbish litters empty spaces
so much space junk orbiting planet earth.

so we bow, kowtow, prostrate ourselves.

in awe we see judgements fall
to arbiters fashionistas caprice
new is not everything
vibrating fierce fiery filaments
fundamental constituents,
floating one-dimensional pointed particles.

the play ends make ups removed
there sit the human naked unveiled.
laughter exits stage left.
