Desert Touch Poem by Smoky Hoss

Desert Touch

The desert light has a savage nature.
Dust drenched heat surrenders
the mystery of the soul's melancholy
through the magnification of clarity
borne in sunset yellows,
elemental earthy browns, gathering grays,
and distant green longings, all covered,
or coveted, by a blue canopy
that tints every consideration -
There is an unknowable organization
still proceeding out there;
the evolution of spirit,
the turning of dust into lives
and lives back into dust.
Dust, raised by the breath of Wind,
into the sun's burning, cleansing heat
converges in the purity of
an unstoppable, unfathomable blue.
The intent of the species,
the creation of the cosmos,
the soul of the universe,
can only be glanced at together
in one planetary place:
under the transfiguring light of the desert.
There is only one requirement to feel
life's meaning:
allow It to touch you -

'Purity does not live in separation from the universe, but in a deeper penetration of it.' - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
