Different Stroke For Different Folks - Poem by Tina Chan

Different Stroke For Different Folks
I'm not your ordinary girl
With good friends to share the great outdoors
Deprived outside of my comfort zone
He saids: "let's go to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge"
I say with great excitement: "so cool as I've never been there"
He saids: "when you ride a bike, you should be switching gears appropriately"
I say with a bewildered face: "what's that? "
He saids: "you biked for four blocks, Tina"
I say with great protest: "better than none! "
He saids: "party of three to Jacob Riis Park and you'll be wearing a bikini? "
I say with a heavy sighed: "stop looking at me in my bikini and get your mind out of the gutter! "
He saids: "I'm sure you've never kayaked either? "
I said coupled with excitement and a heavy sigh: "yes, I'll wear my bikini and stop looking at me again! "
He saids: "despite people think you're weird, I understand you"
With disagreement, I said: "no, you truly do not understand amid you think you do"

Different Stroke For Different Folks
Now it's my turn to say: "blame it on my Chinese culture or my ‘worst education'?
I do not deserve this dismissive callous treatment from many
You're too transparent for lacking substance to understand
Closed door policy against me
I may be different but no less than you! !
