Disandat Poem by Sergio Savioli

Disandat

my name's Sid and I'm a tadpole

when I was frogspawn there was no problemo

life was easy then

but now I have a bad yen

I have to feed off my own joke

my name's Sid and I'm a tadpole

I'm a tadpole without a pole

a tad lacking something and rather droll

no legs to make a little headway

not that I can pole dance anyway

more than a pole I really need a post

a fingerpost would be cool

to tell me where to go

but then I need to know what to do there too

and I can't quite put my finger on dat

I haven't got one for a start in this mudflat

or perhaps I'm approaching dis from the wrong direction

maybe I'm a tad pondering the quiddity of the pond's inaction

this murky marshy mire of a pool

it's no one's fault quicunque vult

life is not a matter of wishes though

my name's Sid and I'm a tadpole

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspiration came to me surprisingly quickly, in a matter of seconds, in fact. I was standing in the bright sunshine 1626m a.s.l. on the San Bernardino pass at 10: 25 Tuesday 23 December 2014. That's where the Postauto stops briefly. Five minutes to be precise. Did news of Joe Cocker's death and the memory of his 'With a Little Help from My Friends' have anything to do with it? Or was it just those sun rays piercing and lancing my consciousness and letting all that existentialism drain out? Looking at it after it was written I was surprised to find hidden rhymes, stuttered rhythms and reverse words - all quite unconscious or almost.

Understanding what it's all about might be an obstacle, but hey, that's life! We're all trying to understand what it's all about, to make sense of things and find out what we're doing here in our own ways! In fact, that's what the poem's about. It's also got an element of restlessness, disquiet, dissatisfaction. It's a kind of subtler, shyer version of the Stones great song 'Satisfaction'! Has Mick written to congratulate me? Not yet
