Double-Edged Sword Poem by Saskia Harjono

Double-Edged Sword

When your eyes don’t see me
I know it’s because
it’s too heavy for you
I understand, looking away
will ease your ache

When your hands don’t hold mine
I know it’s because
you are too weary
and letting go
is the best for us
for we are
not meant to be

When you are concealing
I know
your heart is breaking
and pretending it’s not there
may lead to fading the flame
to nothingness

You need not say a thing
for I understand
I am
the double-edged sword
you are trying to annihilate
