Down Memory Lane Poem by David Harris

Down Memory Lane

Rating: 5.0

Back in the 1960’s was a
TV series called Petticoat Junction
with an old steam engine
that ran back and forward
along a closed branch line.

While on holiday we took a train ride
on an old steam engine
which felt like taking a trip
down memory lane in the days before diesel and electric.

The hoot of the horn
as we passed down the track.
The white smoke slipping along the train
as we moved along
the track to our destination.

The beauty of the ride
was the character of it all.
That brought back memories
of the early days
and the thrills it invoked.

Although the journey was short,
it was relaxing listening
to the sounds that invaded
the carriage as we
thundered along the track.
