Dragons In The Sky Poem by Don Dickenson

Dragons In The Sky

When I was a child, a game was played,
called ‘Dragons in the Sky’.
We lay on our backs in a hillside field,
to watch the clouds go by.
And as they passed in vast array,
Every shape was named.
A monster, dragon, horse or sheep,
In quick agreement would be claimed.
Bourne along on a teasing wind,
Challenging youthful mind and sight
As imaginary astro creatures,
Danced in the bright sunlight.

Dragons in the Sky, never had a plot.
No book of rules, nor futile regulations.
Anyone who takes the time, to pause, and upward look,
celestial beings they may see, in vaporous creations.
It is a game where no one player, ever wins or looses.
Not like a race that’s battled for, and victory is won.
It’s a vast yet fleeting vision, upon a canvas broad,
not for competition sharp, but simply played for fun.
And now I must admit, though childhood days
Have passed me by,
I still take time to watch the clouds,
and still see ‘Dragons in the Sky’.. Do You?
