Dune's Confrontation Poem by Kurt Hearth

Dune's Confrontation

Within the fold
of my cowl. Fragile eyesight
is shielded to the sun searing heat.
From the bleached sands
of the ever shifting dunes.
Scanning 'cross the beckoning
mysterious landscape
so silent, veiled sirens
seductively whisper.
Challenge to conquer that
ever changing panorama.

In the sand at my sandals.
Must I retrieve,
that gauntlet flung by
non stop firey zephyrs?
Surely to decline
would justify mortality's
failings.
In the eyes of cynical deities,
encourage its demise.

With hesitation a non-issue
deep torrid breath I inhale,
determined to defy all's
negative arrogance.
Through clutching sands,
I fight.
One dogged step and another.
Biased satisfaction will be
denied.
