Efua

Efua, efua,
Magic as it happens.
Sparkling light,
Sparkling bright,
Piece of music
In the night.
Magic heard and magic seen,
Overflow
Of the Truth
In the denseness
Of the night.

Efua, efua,
How could it have happened?
On a frosty, windy eve
On your broom of make-believe
Swooshed you down
Into town,
Falling with the milky-white:
Efua, efua,
Sparkling Wonder of the Night.

poet Alfred Edward Housman

The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
