I think the poem's about anything worth having. You go out to look for it, have not the easiest of times, and then realize it's not something to be found. It's something to be taken. And you 'ride, boldly ride' through whatever dark valley you must, to get it, if you really want it.

Seems like that to me, just from experience, or an extreme lack thereof.

I fell in love with this poem as a teenager, memorized it and repeated it to myself often. I am now 77 years old and it still rings true with me. Another philosopher of life, William Sanger, said it in another way: ' Live every day as if you are going to live forever.' Take on new challenges, learn a new language, maintain your health and strength, contribute to your community, make your life and activities as worthwhile as you can - Ride, boldly ride! !

IF you ask me, I believe that the poem spoke of a mans journey to death, not of one searching for el Dorado, but that of any man, and in some ways, Edgar himself, for he only found peace and retreat from the sorrow of the world in death.

I am french, and Eldorado from E.A.Poe is the only poem i have been knowing by heart for now 25 years, since i was 16 and commented it at my first school exam.
For me, it can mean several things, the main and most important one being that it is always possible to reach ones dream even if the road is difficult but courage and perseverance can make the difference.

Poe might be suggesting fortitude, or he meant be saying the treu Paradise we seek all our lives is only in death. What it's meaning, its open to anyone; s interpretation, which is my favorite aspect of Edgar Allan Poe. His poetry is for everyone. Easy rhyme scheme, and beautiful desription.

This poem is greatly written. Poe uses many tools to hide the true meaning behind the poem. Such as the word Eldorado and shadow.

Caroline Glen 8/1/5. What does interesting mean? I like this poem. I like its short lines, the rhyming style. To me, it doesn't hold an enlightening philosophical resolution. The knight is told to hurry although he is dying (strength failed) . I suppose we are being advised to keep fortitude, physical strengh and hope to an unfulfilled end.

I love this poem. It has such a great rhythm to it! I already have it memorized. It tells a tale of hopes and dreams and the possiblity that we can find them if we look long enough. There is a way to true peace and happiness, but it is not through gold; it is through the LORD Jesus Christ. Amen
