Elgin Mills Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Elgin Mills

Elgin Mills

Like those days with my dog
-the bitch that must call love
-followed me in morning
-till I reached main-street
-then got lost in the farms
-I returned we walked home

Today saw Elgin Mills
-the farm lands of before
-around year, little more
-are mostly abandoned
-or purchased by builders
-to be turned to houses
-varied shapes and sizes

Then I thought till got lost
-in defining our life
-and the lands' residents
-crawlers and the birds
-the hunted and hunters
-all of them in one way
-are gone, killed or afraid

What about the balance
-of mankind and the land
-and other creatures?

Felt bad for children
-are in debt before they
-even reach maturity
-will never know the things
-that are theirs, destroyed
-by parents, same blood
-or grid for money…
-and power…
-stupidity…

Fool are we and drowned in dumbness!
-stupid are claims
-against the poor older residents
