Ellen Poem by Francis Duggan

Ellen

A woman who is quite unselfish and brave
For compassion and kindness the flag she does wave
She is helping the dispossessed and the poor in refugee camps far away
For attending to their medical needs she does not receive any pay

To the poor and the needy devoting the best years of her life
She does not have a lover or is not anyone's wife
Ellen a beautiful twenty six years old doctor with shoulder length wavy hair of brown
Is helping the war dispossessed in a far away town

She could have stayed at home and for her services a big salary receive
But in the helping of those in need of helping she does believe
Relief from suffering and war injuries to war victims every day she does bring
Of her praises it make me feel happy to sing

Of the needs of the poor she is quite aware
The love that is in her with others she does share
One can say of her a great person indeed
And of many more of her sort the Human World is in need.
