Erin's Dream (Orange, White And Green) Poem by Ian Hammond

Erin's Dream (Orange, White And Green)

Like the sweet waters of our rivers so free,
May the lives of Erin`s people run their natural course.
By the grace of God may the Armalite neèr more
In Ireland`s emerald vales be heard to blare.
Though the sun be veiled by clouds embrace
I will neèr forget its existence,
Though ten thousand days may go by without it`s sight,
Likewise Erin`s people neèr will forget their fight.

Tá Gráinne Mhaol ag teacht thar sáile,
Óglaigh armtha léi mar gharda,
Gaeil iad féin is ní Gaill ná Spáinnigh,
Is cuirfidh siad ruaig ar Ghallaibh.*

A bhuí le Rí na bhFeart go bhfeiceam,
Mura mbeam beo ina dhiaidh ach seachtain,
Gráinne Mhaol agus míle gaiscíoch,
Ag fógairt fáin ar Ghallaibh*

By artillery’s bright array the voice of Erin to rise as one voice
Saying death for the orange white and green a thousand times
Before a day of life for the red white and blue.
On Erin’s green hills shall we stand and fight, till the end of days.
Over thundering cannons roar pray my Lord,
The bells of peace to peel, to echo through our emerald vales,
And to set tune to the Amhrán na bhFiann.
And all the lands to know Brave Erin’s dream.

So stand tall young Irish lads, ne’er bow in fear,
Brave father Cúchulainn’s strength pray the Lord grant to you-
That we may stand tall on Irish battle fields,
And that we shall send the British dogs back to Hell.
Ne’er shall any army be able to defeat the hearts of the pure-
And when God’s hand in judgement shall take,
Erin shall once more fly the orange white and green.

And when Providence takes my own memory dear,
And love warms my heart from the blight of winter,
May my land once more stand united in Liberty-
The isle of the Tuatha De Danaan once more be wild and free.
And all the lands shall know brave Erin’s dream.

*Verses two and three are borrowed by Padraig Pearse's song Oró, Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile*
