Except That I Love You Poem by Sadiqullah Khan

Except That I Love You

The immense gratitude, the debt I owe you
Except that I love you, except
And until I die no more, until
I see light, until peace. A heavy hand
Grotesque empowers: demonic, unexplainable.
Until the suffering has gone, and the visibility -
Of a form dense. Until the colors bleed
Elbows wet, de-lineate objects, and beauty prevail.
The readiness of drawing, sketches
Until I make a dotted appearance on your outline.
Trance figured, without boundary.
Until roses blossom on your cheeks, and your eyes,
Tulips. Lips honey. You breathe music.
Except that I love you, except
The immense gratitude that I owe you.
