Fairy Tale Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

Fairy Tale

a blazing ring
that flashes, not a candle
that weeps

the love that beats
within her
is a living thing

down into the tunnel
of the stairs Alice rushes
from her humdrum sleep

because her shadow
is lengthening does not mean
she is growing smaller

John, O John,
our last goodbye
was just an au revoir

she is rushing down
the stairs again, the magic
of the stairs into the night

love has made her wiser
has given her wings
her taller shadow rushing
towards so many things.
