He's a fast one-that Eddie
Our rock n roll daddy
He used to play saxophone
And that's better than trombone
And especially xylophone
He's a smart one-that Eddie
Sharing stories with you and me
He used to play cops and robbers
Giving to the poor from his coffers
A modern-day Robin Hood
From our own neighbourhood
He's a kind one-that Eddie
Compassionate to you and me
He used to play the good shepherd
Clothes off his back and a good word
To you and me and even a nerd
He's a tough one-that Eddie
Our rock n roll daddy
Sex drugs and rock n roll
May soon take its toll
But he's reached his goal
He's lived his life fast and hard
Very seldom caught off guard
He's been a friend to you and me
And that is awesome and kingly
May he live in prosperity
Richard, this is brilliant. As I read, I thought of Eddie Harris and Miles Davis, Rocky Horror....Even if these aren't the Eddie you mean, this work can be very personal for so many people. Brilliant!
Quite a fun response to the poem, MJ. Especially, since I've had fun with both the movie and the music. But I hate to disappoint you. Fast Eddie is a real-life character who happens to be a friend. The poem was written as a birthday gift. To this day, he proudly talks about it to so many people that it's a little embarrassing.
wow! lots of topics. it seems i wrote a poem not long ago about some 'fast' guy. maybe i never typed it. i like this one by you. i like the rhyming and that you weren't compelled to use the same number of lines in each stanza. he played the robber? not nice! ! ! bri :)
Thx, Bri for your positive feedback. Unconventional poem for a very unique person. He had a pretty colourful shady history, but that's history now.

I would like to translate this poem
Fast Eddie written from the heart and it shows.
