As the dark lay heavy on the night
As breath like birth pains breathed
As heartbeats stilled
As concepts flew
Within my slumber all I knew
Had come undone
Alone and cold of soul
Along with my regrets
Among those loved
More than my life
I wandered knotted in my plight
Confusion cancelled rest
Waves o’erwhelmed my head
Drenching my parched bed
Pounding ‘gainst my skull
Shouting “ Is this all? ”
While visions of the day
Passed once again my way
And I lay silent
Tangled here the sheets
Strangled now in sleep
Heated limbs
Cheated ends
Snarled, matted, sweaty
And all for none
