Final End To A Free Life Poem by Felix Emeka George

Final End To A Free Life

A soldier arraigned for mutiny
In the heat of war, broken.
Lessened heat calming nerves... pardoned
For he would have died better in the battlefield.
Just when it seemed he had become waste of the earth,
He beat death and survived. welcomed a hero.

There is no greater thing on this earth
He thought as he approached his house
In hope of his wife's warm embrace
For so long he Yearned,
so many months apart.
Struggling under the rainfall and sunshine

He finds her carrying another man's child.

The stories said you were dead
In agony I sought comfort in your words but my letters returned unread, unreplied.
Then in dark undercover of night became desperate,
For a man's care.

The words caused the survivor lose himself.
For saying she was no longer interested
He said, if you lie I can fix you
But you betrayed, it hurts and pains.

In anger he let down his guard
In anger to let out hispain
To take anger out of him
he got mad and punched her chest
And the woman died

This new storm sent him to life jail
Where he has no pardon or reappraisal again
Only a dark tomorrow before him lay.
