Fire Alarm Poem by Jon Holloway

Fire Alarm

Tangible moment

I am leaning against an old paint chipped railing

A train station, mid summer, early morning

Demented crows gabble at each other hoarsely

For the moment the air is cool and fresh

I want to package this moment and send it to you in
your office

When it arrives the fire alarm will go off and you

will be Obliged to go outside,

Away from your windowless golden prison

You will see the crows, feel the breeze and see the sun

For a short while you will be you, not somebody else's you

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was at Barnham train station (UK) some years ago when this idea started forming. The crows are still very abundant there. It was a happy moment and it was directed towards my wife who was working about 50 miles away.
