Firing Squad Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Firing Squad

The feelings I had for you
Marched outside single file in front
Of a firing squad.
I wish so bad that it could have been you.
I hadn't seen them in so long,
Now older, a bit wiser.
They used to do anything to make you happy,
Serving a sentence they weren't meant
To serve.
They took me everywhere with them,
The same way they tried to take you.
Blindfolded, feeling their way through the dark.
The crazy things you get used to
However humane or inhumane.
Locked away & forgotten,
I wish so bad that it could have been you.
My friends taken away one by one, you had no right
Disappearing in the blink of an eye.
My feelings, the wrong place
At the wrong time, after everything you've done.
They still accepted you with open arms.
They still would march out there single file & give their all for you.
I wish so bad that you could do the same for me
I wish so bad that it could have been you.
Open & free, without fear
Alone they stand.
My feelings
