First Hunger Poem by Krishna Baalu

First Hunger

Holidaying

Sri Lanka 2010 AD

In the midst of cool sea breeze and Blue lagoons
with my luggage and loads of stuff to eat and drink

The smells of tamarind rice the vinegary curd rice
with lot of cheese and butter and loafs of buns breads
in my shoulder bag;

With pickles of my choice
Ready to allure me any time any where!

Fruities, Appies to quench my thirst
Ready to serve me on demand!

During paucity my valet is with full of credits

The resort is full of vendors filling our hunger

My mobile is sufficient with balance to bla bla any time any long;

The serene surroundings

With prostrating palm trees

Rising surf; swirling sands

Playing kids; jumping balls

There is smile all around;

There is business as usual

There is laughter; there is film songs;

There is Tambhola;

All the fun around

Despite

My blood becoming bulky

Below the shining waving waters

A deep stillness all the way down

A gory past

Starved humans buried in the past,

Mourning its anniversary to day

Silently underneath

The

“Mullaitheevu”

(Note: Mullaitheevu is a coastal in Northern Sri Lanka where hundreds of ethnic Tamil people were starved to death and buried during war with Sri Lankan Forces last month-May 2009)
