First Love Poem by Alfred Ramos

First Love

First Love
It’s been too many damn years
And I still feel the tears
Build up inside my eyes
When thoughts of you fill my mind
Thoughts I just can’t leave behind
Like a plastic flower that never dies
There have been too many days
And too many ways
To bury your memory
Wife after wife
I wasted my life
Waiting for you to come back to me
That first love, it grabs you hard
Catches you off guard
That first love that comes your way
You want it to stay
That first love is hard to let go
Leaving devastation you don’t want to know
Ooh that first love
So the years crept by
When I wanted them to fly
But who am I going to knock
The children came and went
And losing became a precedent
With me counting the ticks of the clock
