First Schooldays Poem by Phil Soar

First Schooldays

She waved as I left her at the gate
I just broke down as she turned away
I hadn't the will to contemplate
She wouldn't have had a thing to say

So hand in hand she walked away
The teacher smiling at my tears
And whispering 'she'll be okay'
To help me with my doubts and fears

That day began with a worried brow
But she never showed a moments worry
She didn't doubt what was happening now
And her Mum and I didn't want to hurry

But we left her in the hands of those
Who knew how hard it must have been
To see her in her first school clothes
And she turned from a princess into a queen
