Flames Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Flames

Flames

Never she, expected
-had to Google search

She needed an answer…
-for the baby's question:
- "What's flame? "

Cooker, light and A/C
-everything electric
-heat and cold, they do get
-but never of fire, nor flame

Child had heard
-was amazed
- "What's flame? "

The mother got B. C.
-saw houses and jungles
-trees massed in forests
-animals, birds and worms,
-were all lost in smoke
-and flare and fury
-as have been recently
-in words, in politics

The child looked at faces
-the people were homeless

"Mom, are they Syrians?
-Yemenis, Africans? "

He had heard the news
-and had watched the TV

No! No! No!

Mother said
-held her head with her hands
-was going crazy
- "What kind of the world is
-this hell that we live in? "
