For You, My Precious Poem by joseph vincent orlanda

For You, My Precious

my child
i was proud
when you were born
in this world
your first cry
made sense to me
as you grasp
my finger
with your delicate
yet feeble hand
i realized
that to make everything
rational in me
i must reach out
to you
a father that seeks
comfort in your
precious little time
as you progress
over the years
i ponder and treasure
every moment i spend
with you
that everything that comes
my way
every trials and tribulations
i face in these times
had to be withstood
with you as my strength
as the future evolves
it cant be denied
that fear is ever present
in me because of you
as you grow as a person
your circle of influence
evolves and that leaves
me in a quandary
especially when you go
to the world independently
i admit there are
wolves that wait behind
the door
i can't deny my fear
in me my child
a lamb standing
amidst the pack of wolves
because my child
i was once
a wolf too
but whatever happens
there is one thing
i am sure of
that when you go
and mold your destiny
i will be there
to watch and support
you all the way
with my love as
your guide to life
