Forget Me Nots Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Forget Me Nots

Forget Me Not

The morn so wonderful
aglow by the sun
lends itself to nature as the dew drops run
the nights fireflies wink and seem like stars
in a child's' tender dream
caught in fruit jars, awe the chase we won
to catch them all was our scheme

forget me not flowers with marigold, their scents were tattle tales!
of hide and seek
playing in mothers flowers now seem bleak
outdoors fun with imaginations
so high
kept us in discovery and happy those days gone by

turtles and frogs to hold and admire
were always let go, just to catch and release our main desire
paths to place that only we knew
still bring a smile through shades of blue
no toys in poverty, but we didn't care at all
the woodlands were our Kingdom
when we were so small

now my thoughts slowly return
to my sisters and brothers
for they were my friends
though old age has tried to do a slow burn

more than a struggle my mind is growing old and slack
treasures are simple and slow
still carry me back
to the days of fireflies and forget me nots
those sultry nights with stars in the sky
and ever so many fireflies locked in my jar.

(I have been forgotten in time, but I still recall the forget me nots.)
