Friend Poem by Shelby Barker

Friend

Lately
Life has taken its toll,
And frankly -
From what I’ve heard -
You’re Sure fed up
I know I sure would be
And I know Secrets can have one friend
Desires can see the light
Vent to me ‘til you’re shaking
Staring blankly
I have the extinguisher right here
To soothe you
And a bandage for your burns,
Too
I can be all ears or all arms if you want me to be
Just let me see how
Deep your hurt is
Please
Sometimes all you need
Is a little understanding
And friend I’m here to listen
I’ve been here a while with my senses keen
But lately
You just haven’t seen
