Frightening Devils Poem by Charlotte Peters Rock

Frightening Devils

Cymbals clashing, voices wailing loud,
send the frightened devils on their way,
welcoming the new year, for the crowd,
crowing with the rooster, as it crowed,
bringing in its long auspicious day.
Smoking incense wishes, to obey,
wafting penance godward, cowed head bowed,
trailing, drifting skyward, as it may,
taking wishes, that they be allowed.
