Girijatmaj temple stands atop
A beautiful hill
In the picturesque area
Of Lenyadri in Maharashtra.
This unique temple of Ganesa,
Stands majestically,
In an eighteen Caves complex,
Believed to be of Buddhist origin.
The sanctum of the temple
Where Girijatmaj Vinayak is worshipped
Is inside the eighth cave.
The caves are called Ganesa Leni.
According to the legend
Siva's beautiful consort - Parvati,
Sat and meditated in this cave,
To beget Ganesa, as her son.
Ganesa was born out of Parvati's penance.
Girija is another name for Parvati,
She is the daughter of Himavan-the Mountain.
‘Atmaj' is her beloved son conceived through mental energy.
The idol here is different,
From all other idols of Ashtavinayakas.
There is no carved figure of Ganesa in the cave.
The only visible form is of a trunk facing the left.
The deity has to be worshipped
From the rear side of the temple.
This amazing temple of Lenyadri
Is carved out of a single stone hill.
The climb to the temple is steep.
Not all can the climb to the top.
There are three hundred and eight steps
Leading uphill to the temple.
During the day the temple is lighted up
By the natural ray's of the sun;
Unpolluted by any electrical wires or
Untampered by any man-made devices.
A worthwhile climb to the spotless caves,
Aglow with excitement and devotion,
Along the breezy steps of spiritual heights,
Affirming the blessing of Girijatmaj Vinayaka.
There are three hundred and eight steps Leading uphill to the temple.... steps of spiritual heights Lovely devotional poem told diligently with the mythological narrative about the penance of Goddess Parvati to have Lord Ganesha as her son. Thanks for sharing the poem, Geeta ji.
Girijatmaj temple stands atop on a beautiful hill. This temple's beauty not only motivates us but also fills us in divine devotion. Birth of Lord Ganesh is significant for destroying all obstacles called bighna. He is worshiped earlier than all other deities. An excellent poem is beautifully penned.10
