Get Off My Back Poem by Jeri Martindale

Get Off My Back

Rating: 5.0

Standing here letting the rain soak me and drip down my skin.

Hoping it cleanes everything that I absolutely need to wash off of me.

I can't stand knowing that those things of my past are still trying to hang on, trying to linger.

I thought I gave them all away, why do they keep trying to cut their claws in deep?

Look at my face. Can't you see that look in my eyes, pleading goodbye for the last time?

Shake it off, I am clean. No I will never be clean until that last time I close my eyes, no disguise can hide it.

But when I do, I will truely awake to stare at that glorious light.

One so bright that no amount of darkness will ever extinguish it, Never.

This is what I have my eyes on, my prize, the one thing I am looking forward to. One day!

So go ahead, dig in; I'll shake you off my back again, just like I did only a moment ago.
