God

Oh, God,
stuck in your heaven
with all due respect
how many times
how many times more
must we bear
Nat King Cole singing
Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire
Wouldn't it be ok to skip a year?
Just this once?
Oh dear God
loath to leave your heaven
how many more Bohemes?
sure it's pretty. And sad. Really.
some think it better than House;
and my taste for Puccini is practically boundless, but,
Isn't there some new carol? Some new lyric?
we might waken to?
Just this once?

Poem of the Day

poet Sir Walter Scott

The moon's on the lake, and the mist's on the brae,
And the Clan has a name that is nameless by day;
Then gather, gather, gather Grigalach!
Gather, gather, gather Grigalach!
