God Took Some Mud Poem by Michael P. Johnson

God Took Some Mud

From dust, The Lord created man
God made a pile of mud
Then to His form and true to plan Gen.1: 27
He found him very good Gen1: 31

But still it lay on mother ground
Man’s cold and lifeless form
Until God’s breath in him was found Gen.2: 7
That made His handwork warm

But disobedience made him cry
When sin made sick and old Gen.4: 26
Man’s stream of life would soon run dry
Once more to make him cold

He’d suffer pain, he’d feel the sword Gen.3: 23
He’d feel the loss of love
Throughout his days to seek the Lord
He'd humbly call above Gen.4: 26

Man's prayed for God to speak once more
Would come and take the pain
Within the flesh God’s word would pour
And make man warm again

Yet man is like a porous brick
Like mud, when cold and dry
When wet too much, he’s weak and sick
When not enough, he’ll die

But God sent Christ to bear man’s shame
He’d heard His children groan
Now those receiving Jesus’ Flame
God makes a temple stone 1Pe.2: 5

Yet man of sin, dies flesh and bone
But Christ can soon restore
Within His hand, a humble stone
Will take God's form once more.
