Godforsaken Happy Land! Poem by Ali Rahimi

Godforsaken Happy Land!

I am an uninhabitable unprofitable country,
A devastated, run-down unlivable land,
A godforsaken zone,
Unappetizing, unwelcoming territory,
Akin to Rwanda, Ethiopia, Syria...
Like Ebola outbreak, keep away lovely gem,
But you will,
Seize me, screen me, search me, confiscate me, dissemble me,
Big powers avoid me, stay away from me,
I’m left in a wilderness of anguish,
Glory of grim gloom and grief,
Battlefield of delicious delightful rape,
Nice, kind humanistic disembowelment,
Affectionate brotherly rape,
Romantic emotional sisterly orgies and sprees,
Fair just butchery,
Legal moral carnage,
Here is a heavenly pleasant slaughterhouse,
Land of delightful heartache, joyful heartbreak,
But does it really matter? Do you really care?
Godforsaken happy land!
Godforsaken happy land!
Godforsaken happy land!
Feel like a political nil, social zilch, a psychological naught,
Like a decorated sacrificial victim of folk’s ceremonies,
Embellished with amulets, flowers, beautifully dressed to kill,
Waiting to be nicely slaughtered by a hallow dagger,
Beautifully piercing my flesh and bones,
Amidst masses’ cheers, slogans and mantras,
Ripped, spiced, indulged on, collective hysteria,
Mass scavenging, group self-indulgence,
I am irritatingly joyful, horrendously happy
Graceful traitors, traitors, traitors!
Attractive Judas, glamorous eloquent renegades,
Nobody likes to get involved, nobody gives a hoot.
Come to my rescue! Calmly delicately suffocate me,
Ethically torture me, softly prosecute me to death,
Sympathetically molest and abuse my kids,
Tenderly benevolently hang my friends,
A godforsaken happy land!
