Granite Eyes Poem by Dana Korneisel

Granite Eyes

Staring at you
Across that granite slab
Seeing in your eyes
Those words that you said
Not knowing what to say
But knowing what I'd do
Unless your eyes said you're sorry
Unless they betray you

Because, babe, I know you're gone
But I've been "gone" before
I've forgiven granite eyes
For moments of strange warmth
That was never really you
You borrowed from the sun
But now I'm past forgiving
Stone don't yield, so babe, I'm done.

You do what I expected
Should've known you'd never change
No matter what I did for you
You'd not dream to do the same
You turn and walk away from me
I'm not following this time
I don't need your okay, ‘babe'
Without you, my life is mine.
