Granite Monuments Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Granite Monuments

Rating: 2.2

The sun sank over the cemetery
near the main post at Fort Riley

Bugles sounded in nearby
quadrangles in darkening
shadows

Lights were extinguished
in brick barracks

Fleeting figures of troops
disappeared

Soldiers' day is done
on Kansas plains

Mute markers
of granite
at parade rest
