Grants Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Grants

Grants

Encounter my colleagues, classmates
-in their hands, I see what is in minds
-some sort of idea, possibly as pamphlet
-a draft for making a movie, book-publish;
-or draw, write score or doing canvas work
All of us short of cash! ! !

I see them competing for success,
-run here and run there, fill papers,
-to send it to part of government
-I sit laugh since I see professors
-in office and holding referrals
-our names are on a list "I taught them"
- "Who the hell approves me when he is? "

I roll up trousers, my sleeves, go to lift
-cement bag and bricks to blocks, all heavy
-I say less and eat less but work more…
- "I do it by myself for myself on my own…"

For years and centuries were forced to:
- "Believe that Abraham was a saint…"
-he had a single God; they spoke…
-and Sara sister-wife was to lie and deny in Egypt
-back and forth and the sides were censured…
-resistance, doubt, question, meant losing hand to tongue
-now the things have reversed Abraham and his God
- "Are all jokes! " if oppose: "You are dumb! "

I want to be free not slave
-with, without God to live
-far from governments
-no grant to somehow end to a string
-and at time connect to censorship

Want to read every book as I wish
-let them be fanatic, fantasy to magic
-religious and racists, nationalist
-Holocaust and those who oppose it
-do not like to wear rein nor the leash
